About the project & role

The Verge is looking for a data journalist, data analyst, visualization builder or other similarly skilled designer/developer to help produce an interactive feature about technology references in pop song lyrics over the years.

The right person for this project has experience in obtaining data from the web and turning it into compelling visual stories, whether in the field of journalism, academia, or a commercial setting. You won’t need to execute every part of the project up to publication standard yourself, as we have an in-house design team and a reporter who will be assigned to the story too – but some familiarity with the different stages of producing a web interactive feature is a definite plus.

Ideally we’re looking for someone who can fill the gap between the designer and reporter by identifying the relevant datasets, pulling and cleaning the data, and analyzing it to find the key facts and figures that we will build the story around. Bonus points if you’re also able to build high quality visualizations and/or write some of the copy for the story too.

To complete the project you’ll need to be able to:

Compensation for the project will be established based on scoping discussions & candidate experience.
